CranioSacral Therapy (CST)
CranioSacral therapy is a gentle form of bodywork that balances the nervous system, relieves deep pain and tension, releases trauma stored in the body, and brings optimal function to the joints and tissues of the body. The technique is performed while the client is fully-clothed and uses light pressure, 5 grams or the weight of a nickle, releasing restrictions from soft tissues that surround the central nervous system.
The central nervous system is heavily influenced by the craniosacral system - the membranes and fluid that surround, protect and nourish the brain and spinal cord. The body endures daily stresses that it strains to compensate for, leading the soft tissues of the craniosacral system to tighten and distort. These distortions cause tension resulting in restrictions in the body creating a barrier to optimal health and performance. This is experienced as pain, or any other numerous dysfunctions.
The CranioSacral Practitioner is feeling for the cranial rhythm, a pulse that ebbs and flows like a wave. The rhythm is produced as the cerebral spinal fluid rushes in to fill the spinal cord and is absorbed back into the body, before it is filled again. The places where the rhythm is off - where the tightness and distortions occur, are balanced by the activation of the body’s innate healing potential. The parasympathetic nervous system is engaged, and self-healing begins, restoring the body’s rhythm and bringing optimal wellness.
CranioSacral therapy is able to address:
traumatic brain injury
stress and tension-related disorders
infant and childhood disorders
brain and spinal cord injuries
central nervous system disorders
and many other conditions
